Rockford's Alex Murray fares well at USA Judo - The Grand Rapids Press
April 1, 2008
Alex Murray, Rockford Michigan, 1st year University of
Chicago, placed third this past weekend in the USA Judo Collegiate National
Championships. Murray was the bronze medalist in the 81kg (178#) division.
This is a new weight division for him having recently moved up to 81kg from the
73kg division. Murray was third in his pool of 18 competitors. Having lost
his first match of the day to Lucas Mignogna (Golden, Colo. / Metro State
College – Denver) Murray battled his way back winning six matches in a row to
once again face Mignoga in the consolation final. Murray narrowly lost that
match finishing him in third place, and bringing the University of Chicago
their first Judo All American. The top three are declared All America by USA
Judo the governing by of judo in the United States. Murray will be attending
the USA Judo Senior National Championships in two weeks to be held in Virginia
Beach. For more information go to Results

Konan is doing it again! We are currently ranked second highest in the number of life memberships for this year for the United States Judo Federation. This will be the fifth consecutive year that we have placed in the top three positions.
Money sent in for life membership goes directly to the general endowment fund of USJF. This money is used for grants and special projects to help improve the quality of judo and/or to grow judo.
Congratulations to you all for your ongoing support of Konan and USJF.

Leadership and Transition
Leadership and the transition of leaders remains an important step in
ensuring continuity of organizational objectives and strategic
direction, fostering teamwork, growth in membership and the development
of future leaders. Judo needs strong leaders to ensure we can continue
to grow as a strong organization with funding to support key
initiatives.
Konan is proud to announce that Neil Simon has been recently been
elected to replace Noboru Saito as President of USJF. Mr. Saito was
instrumental in building critical programs at the National level and
continue to be a resource for Neil during the transition. Neil was
formerly the Treasurer of USJF and President of Konan. Neil provides a
wealth of program management and strategic planning background and will
still remain the lead for the 2007 Junior National Tournament in
Michigan. Neil is being replaced in Konan by a new administration
headed by Steven DeRaedt as President and Jim Murray, and Roland Leone
as first and second VP respectively. John Berra remains as Treasurer
and Andrew Fraser will be the new Secretary. Steven DeRaedt is in the
process of filling important Development Chairs and would seek your
continued support as we fill out the Konan organizational chart.
